Weekly Newsletter - 6th June 2025
“Excellent attendance is vital for children to flourish and achieve”
Welcome, back to the last half term and we hope it is a fantastic end to the year with lots going on. Children need to be in school every day right up to the very last day of term, Friday 18th July.
We would like to wish all our families who are celebrating Eid a very happy Eid and we are excited to hear all about their celebrations on Monday.
Worship – Our new theme is Respect and this week we have started to reflect on a quote from the bible ‘Do to others, as you would have them do to you.’ Matthew 7.12 This is the same as a more modern saying, ‘Treat others as you want to be treated yourself.’ We also talked about the British Values of Respect, Tolerance and Liberty and how they fit with our theme of respect. We have also discussed our new attribute, ‘Commitment’ and how you should do the things you say, you will do and the tasks you need to do.
What we are doing to make things better - Over the half term we had, some lights replaced around school and had the shelter shutters serviced and repaired.
REMINDERS - Childcare
- Breakfast Club payments MUST be made on the first Monday of each half term. We provide very reasonably priced breakfast club and do not have the time to chase payments, and should not have to. Late payments will affect whether you are offered a place next year. We always have a waiting list and places will go to others.
- After School Club payments MUST be paid on the Monday of each week. Again, places will not be offered to those who have regularly paid late. We allocate Mondays to process payments and do not have the time to continually chase late payments.
- Holidays in term time may impact what childcare we offer you. We do not expect to provide school run childcare for parents to then take children out of school in term time. This also applies to holiday schemes.
REMINDERS – General
- Measles – measles is a very contagious disease and can be dangerous. Cases in England/Leeds have been on the rise over the last few years. Please make sure all of your children have up to date vaccinations – contact your GP if you have any questions about this.
- As the weather gets hotter (hopefully!), we do not allow children to wear non-uniform. All children need to wear a red/white polo shirt or their PE t-shirt. Vest tops will not be allowed and children will be provided with a shirt to wear that day.
- Shoes worn must be appropriate to school, this does not include sandals/crocs unless worn for a specific, agreed medical reason. This must be discussed with a member of staff.
UNIFORM – As it gets towards the end of the school year we are asking if you have any uniform that is now too small for your child that can be passed on to someone else. If you have any used uniform to donate, please bring it to the office – thank you
NURSERY PLACES – We will have Nursery places available in September this year. If you have a child who is currently 3 years old or turning 3 this year, please register them at the office. If your child is not 3 yet, you can still complete the registration forms in advance and if there is a place available when they turn 3 we will contact you nearer the time. We are very popular and are currently full, so if you would like a place next year please speak to Mrs Drake in the office.
Attendance – Let us try to end the year with a fantastic half terms attendance. Children cannot achieve their best if they are not in school and on time for the first lesson of the day.
Make sure your child comes to school every day and on time. 8.30am for Nursery, 12.30pm in the afternoon and by 8.50am for the rest of school. Thank you

Weekly Round Up
Nursery – Our topic for this half term is Seaside. This week we have talked about our half term break and we loved listening to the children sharing their news. We have watched our five butterflies eating and drinking sweet oranges and we released them in our garden. Our story of the week has been 'What the ladybird heard at the seaside'. In Maths we make patterns using shells and rocks. We counted out shells onto rainbow number shell plates and made pictures using various shells. We sang '12345 once I caught a fish alive' song. The children have also designed their own mermaid's tails. We have also discussed how to look after our planet and learnt about Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and used junk modelling to create new items like doll's houses, rockets, towers, etc.
Reception – This week in Reception, we have been talking about how we have grown and changed since being a baby. We have really enjoyed looking at our baby photos and talking about the things we can do now that we could not do when we were babies. We have enjoyed drawing self-portraits using mirrors, looking closely at our features. In Maths, we have been exploring composition of 10. We have used Numicon and counters to explore different ways to make 10 and have really challenged ourselves to write number sentences. In drawing club we have wrote some fantastic sentences about the monster in the story Not Now Bernard. We are working really hard to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
Years 1 & 2 –This half term the children in Year 1 will be learning the topic of 'Our World Our Future'. They will be looking at lots of different things including ways we can all look after our planet and thinking about their aspirations for their future and what they would like to do when they grow up. In Year 2 the children will be learning about the seaside and the features of coastal places. The children should have all received their letters about the visit to Scarborough, which will help in their understanding of what it is like at the seaside. Please can all replies be returned as soon as possible.
Years 3 & 4 –This week, Years 3 and 4 have been looking at ways to keep safe online during our computing lesson. In Science, we have enjoyed labelling the human skeleton and looking at its features. In DT, we have started our new project, where we will be sewing textiles and making money wallets/purses. Year 4 children have also been completing their times table check. The results will be sent out in a few weeks.
Years 5 & 6 - Lineham Farm We are getting very excited about our two residentials to Lineham Farm (week beginning 23rd June). Confirmation letters were distributed at the end of last half term and we hope to see as many families as possible for the information evening on 11th June (starting at 6pm).

Flamingo Land - Thank-you to everyone who has made a voluntary contribution towards Flamingo Land.
To those that have not paid, we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £25 to help school cover the cost of the trip (the voluntary contribution can be paid as a whole amount, or paid in instalments). The voluntary contribution can be paid using Parent Pay, or card at the school office. It is vital we receive as many voluntary contributions as possible to help school fund two well deserved trips.
Year 6 Hoodies - We have now placed the order for Year 6 hoodies. The price of the hoodies has been set and payment can now be made by Parent Pay, or by card at the school office. Children will not be given their hoodie (delivery of the hoodies will be soon) if payment has not been made.
Lessons - Highlights of the week: We have started our fair trade topic in Geography. In the first lesson, we have looked at the silk road and we have researched different countries and what they would have traded 2000 years ago.
